BT Redcare

Here at Wandsworth and Richmond BCs, we shall be going through a re-organisation next year. Our monitoring and control room services will be fully amalgamated to encompass Careline/WATCHline monitoring services, CCTV and borough emergency control centre functions. It appears that the higher powers(at director level) in the local authorities want a completely bespoke system that can handle all three disciplines mentioned above and have approached BT Redcare to provide this system. Unfortunately, Jontek(Wandsworth’s call handling system supplier) and Tunstall(Richmond’s PNC supplier) have not been invited to tender for the contract. Does anyone have any experience(or knowledge of) using BT Redcare as a provider of telecare call handling systems?
Certainly from a telecare service provider perspective, we are concerned about whether BT Redcare have the experience to design a telecare call handling system. Any comments, most gratefully accepted. Thanks. Robin

    Hi Robin,
I have just been speaking to Michael Askew, the founder of MonitorSoft. For the past 30 years they developed a flexible software system that has primarily been used in control centres (primarily CCTV, Fire and intruder, etc.) However, recently they have been making inroads into the telecare call-handling market and are very keen to pick up the conversation with interested parties about a combined system.
Should you wish to make contact and explore further please drop him a note at michael.askew@monitorsoft.com
I told him that he may get an email from you regarding this.
    Best wishes

There is unfortunately a misunderstanding by some people unfamiliar with the Telecare industry, that because Telecare equipment uses a phone line to communicate with the control centre, it is the same as a phone. You may wish to consider asking your control centre provider, to meet with the powers that be, to explain the joys of BS8521, TTNew etc before its too late to unravel.

It seems to me that BT Redcare only monitors properties -not people and only monitors the line. I’m not sure they even speak to anybody in the emergency service!
I would fight for a better system if I was you!

    Hi Robin,
BT operated a telecare and telehealth service in Cornwall about 4 years ago, but I’m pretty sure it all ended in tears and this seems to back that up: https://www.publictechnology.net/articles/news/high-court-rejects-bt-attempt-halt-cornwall-councils-ict-insourcing
Not good reading if you already have concerns……

    Regards,

    Mark
