Hello! We have a service user who tends to unplug his Lifeline alarm from the telephone socket. The service user’s son has managed to secure the electrical socket, but the BT socket remains a problem. We are unable to use a GSM alarm, so any suggestions regarding the best way (if any) to secure a BT socket would be much appreciated. Many thanks

Hi John,
Julia will have to remove the extra post for you.

Thanks Gerry. Quite odd that. I entered the 1st post. Then nothing happened for a while, so I re-entered and both popped up at the same time. Apologies for that.

You can obtain BT socket that have a lock on them which prevents phones being removed etc.
Similar to the link below, although RS have discontinued this particular item, but it gives you the idea.

Alternatively you can put the below across the plug fixed to the socket which secure it in place, at least then it would need some effort in order for your client to disconnect the unit.

This option allows you to lock the socket inside the box instead, maybe a bit OTT.

One “dirty” option would be to remove / snap off the tab on the side of the BT plug, which will then cause it to be latched into the socket. It then becomes more difficult to remove as you can’t simply press the latch tab to remove it, that may be enough of a deterrent for your end user?

Great info, many thanks David. The son ended up purchasing the JS131 box that Dave Jewer originally suggested, but the more info that I can get for future cases the better. The knowledge base is filling up nicely!

Twenty years ago had a similar problem with warden call test modules (501) in general needs schemes and fitted over fifty BT telephone socket locks. They are for sale on the RS Components website: http://www.uk.rs-online.com Enter part number: 154-728

Apologies for the double posting! The next question would be, how do you remove a post?
